There is no better way to start the new year then traveling, I am very fortunate that my start of 2018 was with an awesome trip to the gorgeous city of Prague to present my Beauty Is In The Light workshop at the Fujifilm X-Photographers Are Coming to Prague event.

Last month I was invited by FujiFilm Czech to present my Beauty Is In The Light Seminar and Workshop as part of the Fujifilm X-Photographers Are Coming to Prague event at the Czech Photo Centre. I have also exhibited with five of my images as part of the Fujifilm X-Photographers Come to Prague exhibition that took place last December. You can check how great it was here.

I love sharing knowledge because I feel it is the only way to really repay those who have taught me so much over the years. I conducted the workshop to a small group of 8 professional photographers. This workshop was intended to not only inform and educate, but most of all to inspire.
Some of the topics I covered is working with models and clients and proper photographic etiquette in doing so.

I dedicate a huge part of my Beauty Is In The Light Workshop to light modifiers, and controlling and seeing light. I also talked about working with a team of makeup and hair stylist and how the creative process happens. We discussed creating mood boards and finding inspiration.
For this workshop I created two primary looks. One was soft and natural, focusing on fresh looking skin and soft eyes and lips. I also used a flower crown to help create the mood.
Taking care of lighting while the MUA does some retouching on the model’s make-up. For me, it is essential to use the modeling light of my SMDVs flash heads to predict how the shadows and the highlights will be cast on the models face.
I shot tethered using TetherTools TetherPro USB 3.0 to Micro-B cable attached to my GFX50s and Adobe Lightroom with the dedicated Fujifilm plugin. It’s a plug-and-play process, so I just need to my Fujifilm GFX 50S to my laptop with the TetherTools cable, turn on Adobe Lightroom, and wait a few seconds. It’s that simple!

I like to use complex lighting usually with multiple lights during my shoots and workshops, I have been a long time user of medium-format camera systems. So I have grown quite used to traveling and lugging around tons of gear and equipment in very large suitcases.
For this workshop I took my three Fujifilm cameras systems: Fujifilm GFX 50S with two lenses, Fujifilm X-T2 with 5 lenses, and Fujifilm X100F. I also took two SMDV 360 flash heads with a beauty dish, a tele reflector, and an octogonal softbox.
This was my first trip with my new Fujifilm GFX 50S camera system. I was looking forward and expected that my kit would be half the size.
When I finished all my packaging for the trip, all the equipment for the workshop fitted into three carry-on ThinkTank bags! I took with me a ThinkTank Airport Advantage Rolling Camera Bag, a ThinkTank Perception Pro Backpack, and a ThinkTank Retrospective Leather 5 Shoulder Bag.
In the past, just my Hasselblad kit would easily occupy the same space where I can now fit my three Fujifilm camera systems. Once again, I couldn’t be happier with my Fujifilm GFX 50S!
