JOAO CARLOS – THE RAKE – ABU DHABI VOLVO OCEAN RACE TEAM

My  most recent assignment brought me  to Alicante , Spain. I flew in from New York to shoot an editorial for Dubai based magazine The Rake, with the Abu Dhabi Race team of this year´s Volvo Ocean Race.  I was excited to working with a new client , professional athletes  and this was the first official collaboration between my self  and my new  representative  VANDER Prodcutions .
Time played an important factor here, besides the collaboration of high end watch brand IWC, we only had  two and half  hours to do styling, make up and photography with 12 non-professional models and get around 30 great pictures. It seemed like an almost impossible task , but I  like to believe impossible is nothing . With the wright team , the proper preparation the almost impossible become very doable.

David my photo assistant   rocking a Westcott five in one reflector and me rocking my BlackRapid R-Strap, I shot direct to Sandisk Extreame Pro cards as usual no time to shoot tethered.

I had the pleasure of collaborating with one of Spain’s TOP fashion stylist  ANA MURILLAS did an amazing job here, converting our Bermuda and flip flop dressed sailors into handsome and elegant gentlemen, Noemi took care for make up. She kept it quick simple and effective .I was  also assisted by her brother  David Nohales  a great local shooter assistant was always ready for any task at hand , Jaime from VANDER was the man who put the shoot together making sure all of our needs were met and that everything went smoothly and well I guest but not the least I tried to make our models feel at ease , so they would look like Sailors out of water,  This honestly  was easy , I just explained to them with references of course  what i needed and i kept the concept easy for them.  Trying to not get to  conceptual  , in a situation like this you can not forget most people hate being photographed, so I had three hours to make it all happen and ended up finishing 15 minutes before the deadline , everything was in place for a  successful production.  Here  are first glimpse  through some snap shots… some images taken  by VANDER himself above  and well since I cant share any image yet from the shoot here are some shots from the Port of Alicante.
