Recently I was invited to hold an Instagram giveaway from the Team over at LFM PRO, and before I could host a giveaway, I had to test the lights. Here is a link to my unboxing .. and my quick first impressions.
I love light and all its multiple forms, no matter if it’s flash, Light painting, or LEDs, lately I have been working a lot with colored gels, so when I first started using the Vibestas I was really excited about all of the creative possibilities, and you know what? They don’t disappoint, the set of images I made was of my favorite shoots in a while.
“Perago” in Latin means “to complete the task.” let’s just say that the Vibesta Peragos really got the job done.
Part of it was the huge amount of lighting options I was able to create, and because they are LEDs I can see exactly what was going on instantly. But first, let’s get back to the basics, who are the Vibestas made for?
Anybody could use these lights, but I think they are certainly being targeted at the Vlogger or users of small, compact mirrorless or digital cinema cameras. However, I did a creative fashion \ Portrait shoot.
Here are some behind the scenes, to help you understand more about the image construction.
Paint the world with color. With full RGBWW capabilities, you can create any color of the rainbow with the Peragos disk. Use one or several disks to paint your scenes with color. The circular shape of the Vibesta Peragos Disk creates beautiful catchlights for portraits, blogging, and interviews.
HSI Mode. Choose any color intuitively in HSI mode. Select hue, saturation, and intensity to find the color you need. Gels built-in. 160 digital gel filters are built into the Peragos Disk 30C so that you have a wide range of popular gel filters with you at any time.
2400-9900K CCT Range. In White Light mode the Peragos Disk 30C offers a CCT range from 2400 to 9900 Kelvin. Choose the right color temperature to match the surrounding light or get creative mixing color temperatures.
The chart above describes each number’s color on the Vibesta’s menu. The color range goes from 1 to 160.
Mount it anywhere. With its compact size and low weight and its ¼” threading, you can mount the light everywhere with simple grip equipment.
There are three different versions of the light available. An RGBWW version, a Bi-color version, and a high output daylight version. Most panel-style LED lights we see are either square or rectangular in shape. There has only been a handful of companies that have made circular LED lights. There are only two other companies that I can think of off the top of my head who have made circular LED lights, (if you don’t count ring lights), and that’s Rotolight and Fotodiox. The whole rationale for making a light round is to create a nice catchlight in the eye. This is exactly why ring lights are used for a lot of beauty shots.
Build quality
The overall build quality of the Vibesta Peragos is pretty good. While the lights are made of hard plastic material, they don’t feel cheap. The buttons, dials, and switches all work well and are easy to reach and use.
Weight & Size
The lights are also a nice alternative if you wanted to use one as an on-camera light. A set of three could also make for a nice, compact travel lighting kit for those times when you can only take limited amounts of equipment. The fixtures are lightweight and they have a small footprint. All three versions of the light weigh in at 370g (13.05oz). The lights are 160mm (6.3″) wide and 55mm (2.16″) deep.
The RGBWW version has an HSI Mode, 160 built-in digital gel filters, and an impressive 2400K to 9900K Kelvin color temperature range.
Unlike the Daylight and Bi-Color versions, the RGBWW version has a very wide beam angle of 120° and a power draw of 30W.
Besides all of these amazing light features of the Vibestas, I also got to experiment with some crystals of different sizes and shapes, that create these ghostly/ dreamy details.
