First Prints of A Idade Importa – A Milestone in the Journey

A Idade Importa: First Prints and Second Viewing

Yesterday, September 9th, marked a significant moment in the journey of A Idade Importa. With Thales Sales from Biblioteca Camões and Marta Barata, the talented graphic designer behind the book, I visited the printer to see the very first prints of the book.

There is something surreal about holding those first prints—months of creative work, collaboration, and passion brought to life. Marta and I meticulously reviewed every detail, from the colors to the texture of the paper, while Thales shared his thoughts on how this book connects the present with the rich history and stories of the elderly. It’s these stories that remind us why this project is so important.

What made the experience even more special was touring the factory. Impress, the printing company, has been operating since the 1920s, and you could feel the history and craftsmanship in the air. The attention to detail in every step of the printing process reflects their century-long commitment to quality.

This is just the beginning. Seeing these first prints has energized me even more as we prepare for the official launch of A Idade Importa and the upcoming exhibition. I’m excited to share more about this journey with all of you.

Second Viewing Update (September 18):
Today, we went back for a second viewing and had to make some changes to the design to ensure it perfectly reflects the vision behind A Idade Importa. The book is almost complete, and you can tell from our expressions that the happiness in the air was contagious. We are getting closer to the final product! Below are some moments from both our first and second visits to the printer.

Take a look at some of the behind-the-scenes moments from our visits below!
